Chinese Name: Jaramu
Foreign Name: Jarrah
Alias: Eucalyptus
Distribution: Southwest Australia
Scientific name: Eucalyptus marginaTa
Jaram is a red eucalyptus mainly produced in southwestern Australia. It is also called Australian sandalwood because of its red color.
Eucalyptus marginaTa is hardwood.
Appearance: Wood grain is usually straight, but there are often crisscross and wavy texture; structure is moderate, texture is neat; heartwood is full dark reddish-brown, often gum and ship-shaped spots, sapwood is light reddish-brown; heartwood is slightly reddish, sapwood is light reddish-brown, usually using four-open sawing process of wood grain area with speckles;
Physical properties: heavy, hard, high strength (especially compressive strength); good toughness, medium durability (generally not easy to warp deformation), high corrosion resistance of heartwood, medium steam bending performance;
Processing performance: Because of its high hardness and density, it is difficult to process. It is suggested to reduce the cutting angle in the process of planer. It has good turning performance, filling the voids with fillers before tenon and nail opening, and good adhesive and parabolic optical properties.
Usage: Landscape wood is widely used in engineering construction in Australia, especially in water facilities, such as bridges, pier row piles and shipbuilding industry. It is also used to make floors, sleepers, shingles, exterior wallboards, wooden ornaments, rafters, joists, furniture, wood components for interior connections, chemical containers and veneers. It is a good material for making handle of hammer, axe and other blow tools.
Wood characteristics and uses: strong corrosion resistance, disease resistance to termites and other pests, easy processing and production, no preservative wood surface is easy to come out of gum (black line) for flooring, wooden bridges, trestles, building materials, ** furniture.
Note: In Australia, Eucalyptus rubra is more planted than any other commercial timber. It is more suitable for offshore construction projects than Karri, but its weight and strength are not as good as Eucalyptus rubra.
Heartwood color: light red, reddish brown air-dry density: (g/cm2) 0.9-1.09
